• One exercise – cut a section from back of the building to center of park. • The views would be informative. • Canopy – doesn’t need to hold with the floor level – holds the church pediment band. • What’s the small intimate space – where does it show up? Why is the individual being lost? Are there now smaller spots to become intimate with? • Raphael Moneo’s Davis Museum – at the top the window looks to the side and you notice you are outside. • The 12’ should maybe be 4’ • Is there an experience when turning the corner? (the non-customer) • The slope on the 1st floor and curved wall begin to create instability – further it. • Roof meets the sky- maybe the individual is brought in at this scale

• Is there away to think about the volume? You need to keep going with your idea for us to understand. • The gesture of addressing the pedestrian is non-committal • Your whole foot is in the water. • The ideas and views – the idea should engage the casual passerby – a better approach to addressing the corner.
• I like that your depth of field is uncertain. • The fins have become a flat style haircut –maybe we can play with the sight/view in this manner. Maybe it is grounding the irregularity of the field – not sure yet
• Floor plans are “best buy” like – maybe they can play into the first idea more. • The level of uncertainty should carry through the whole idea – there are no floor plans, instead they are a series. • It should take Serra’s ideas as an inspiration and make it Matt’s idea. • Alley – maybe there is a separation from the adj. building. • A level of special ambivalence. • Grid organization at the base and then sway away from the grid on the vertical level. • Stairs – I like the thinking and the idea; a little to close to Serra’s sculptures; w/the multi floor system the stairs may not work. • One you regularize the grid, you will discover where your pods are.

• Entrance – you discuss it being a welcoming entrance but you discuss comfort vs. discomfort (this would be a spot for some quick thumbnail sketches and perspectives.) • Building – is it a building or is it not a building? Urban forest, don’t understand it’s nature; it is sculptural rather than architectural - Ted disagreed: Architecture tends toward comfort vs. discomfort or the pursuit of discomfort. • Thesis – Refine how you are going to accomplish your statement because all buildings currently do what you are discussing. • Step down into site – want to persuade you from stepping down, you have so much going on with your site that you will be creating hazard. • Precedents - Doug Darden: Whale images o Doug Darden – Whale images o Schindler’s steps o Barragan – tower’s in Mexico (very interesting things going on)
