Here is my first architectural clay model. I think this scale is a little too big to model these efficiently. I am going to reduce the upcoming models to 1/64" instead of the depicted 1/32".
The scale will have to depend on what you are carving. When you do the model studies of just the columns the scale will prob. be diff. Looks great so far. How long does it take to do one?
Matt, what a very creative technique you use, clay model!
I think the technique and the material works so well with your Design and would help in developing your forms while creating the model. as you consider it as study model under progress.
I like alot that you intend to reduce the upcoming models to 1/64"
Its much easier to study a mass in smaller model that a bigger one.
Good start with the clay. The idea is to study the roof line, quickly and often. Don't think too much about it, try to move intuitively at first; a point, a curve, grab it with your hands and pull it up, pinch little peices like hair. Have fun with it. You are stil too focused on the street facade -

The clay models are awesome! Is it as fun as it looks?
It is! A little messy but that's the point right? Down and dirty!
